Trailer Connector Types: How to Tell What You Have and What to Order
You're ordering a light, the form asks whether you want a 4-pin or a 7-blade connector, and you realise you have no idea which one is bolted to the back of your car. Fair. The naming in this corner of the world is genuinely a mess — the same connector goes by four different names depending on who's selling it. So here's the whole picture: how to tell what you've got, what the other types are for, and which words actually mean different things versus which are the same thing w

Bike Rack License Plate Holders: What's Legal and What You Need to Know
You bolt the rack on, load two bikes, and back out of the driveway. Somewhere in there your license plate stopped being visible, and you probably didn't notice until someone mentioned it. This is the second most common thing people email me about, right behind blocked brake lights. Here's the short version of how to fix it. The legal part, briefly I'm not a lawyer and I won't pretend to know your state's statute. Every one I've read wants the same basic thing: the plate legib

What Size Bike Rack Light Do You Need?
The question I get more than any other is some version of: which one do I actually need? It's a fair question. We build the lights in three sizes — Small, Medium and Large — and those names don't tell you much on their own. So here is what is actually different between them, in the order that matters. Start with your rack, not with the size Before anything else: check whether we already make a kit for your rack. Almost everything we build is rack-specific. Not "universal, sho

The flashing blue lights behind me weren’t for speeding. They were there because the driver behind me couldn’t see my brake lights. I was driving home from a ride with two mountain bikes on my hitch rack. The bikes weren’t moving and my bike rack was secure. From the driver’s seat, nothing seemed wrong. But when the officer walked up, he pointed to the back of my vehicle and said, “Your brake lights and turn signals are completely blocked.” He was right. The bikes covered the

Local Laws and Statutes
A customer (Mike W. of Minnesota) recently pointed out that we don't market on the legality of blocking plates/tags and signal lights. I completely agree with this and honestly have not done much research on the topic. Our primary concern is improving safety when carrying bikes. I don't want to be rear ended, injured or dealing with an insurance company to replace my equipment. It's painful and a waste of my time. With all that said, it's against the law and ticket able to
