The rugged, highly visible Kody Technologies 16-inch LED Rack Light creates eye-catching tail, brake, and turn signals. The tail light turns on six of the twelve LEDs at partial brightness. The LEDs animate or sequence left or right for turn signals. And the brake light when activated turns on all LEDs to full brightness, overriding the turn signals. Check out this YouTube Video showing the light in action. The sequencing light does not play nicely with new Fords (2016+) and Teslas. We recommend going with a double light set up or reaching out to discuss.
This rack light is designed specifically for the Kuat NV 1.0, Kuat NV Base 2.0 and Kuat NV 2.0 bike racks (both with and without the bike service stand). NV 1.0 installations require a different screw and washer set — please contact us and we'll include one with your order. Please see the two product images showing the difference between versions 1.0 and 2.0 to make your selection for that option.

Be sure to check out our other Kuat Bike Rack Lights. We also make a Medium (two 12 to 13" lights) and a Large (two 16" lights). The doubles spread wider across the back of the rack, they're the sizes that offer built-in reverse lights, and they're what we'd point you to for a Tesla or a 2016-or-newer Ford.
Cable Lengths
We provide three cable length options. The cable lengths include Short (70"), Long (112") and Extra Long (160"). The Short cable will work in most applications using a standard bike rack with up to four bike trays. Please see our FAQ page for information regarding how to select the right cable length for your rack set up.
Vehicle's Connection
Choose between a standard Four Pin or Seven Blade trailer connector.
Four Pin: Powered by a standard flat 4-pin connection. Powers tail lights (including plate lights if added), turn signals and brake lights.
Seven Blade: Upgrades to a heavier duty cable and jacket, a 7-blade connector with 8 internal conductors. This creates a clean finish and eliminates the need for adapters.

Rigid or Pivoting Light
We offer both Rigid or Pivoting light options. A rigid light is primarily used with the bike rack in the down position for when bikes are loaded. The light is bright and has some effectiveness in the stored position.
The Pivot design allows you to rotate the light fixture for use in both the up / stored position as well as the down / bike loaded position. We have two different pivot designs. One uses a friction hinge and does not require any locking mechanism to hold it in place. We recommend and ship this friction hinge on applications without licence plate holders. To position the light just push or pull the light into the desired position.
The second design uses a mechanical hinge and thumb screw locks. We recommend and ship this design for all applications with license plate holders. To position the light just loosen the clamps, pivot the light into the desired position and tighten the clamps.
The pivot option might be substituded pending inventory availability. If you have questions regarding these pivots please reach out to us or check out our Pivoting FAQ. Also, if you prefer one design over the other please let us know and we can ship your preference.
License Plates
We have three options for plate holders and a plate light. Please see the list below to understand each option. For more information on our plate options please check out License Plate Holders and Plate Lights. The plate holder varies between the different main trailer light set up.
No Plate Accessory: I just want my light and nothing to do with any license plate holders.
Plate Light Ready: Adds a plate light electrical connection to the main cable, ready for a future plate light upgrade. No plate holder is included with this option. This option is included at no extra cost with the seven blade connection, which already carries the plate light connector.
Plate Holder - No Light: Plate holder with no electrical connection or light. This includes a bracket mounted to the main light which provides a license plate mounting location and plate mount hardware.
Plate Holder with Light: Plate holder with plate light. This includes the plate holder mentioned above as well as a second bracket to install the plate light, integrated cable wiring and the plate light.
Configuration and Pricing Note: The total light set up pricing will not populate or update until you have made a selection for all options. Once the selections are completed and the price is updated you can adjust your selections one at a time to see how the price varies.

The Kody light for my Kuat NV 2.0 is fantastic. The lights are very bright and the directional signals and hazard light functions are very obvious (just as they are shown in the videos). The metal bracket is very sturdy and well painted or power coated (not an expert on metal coatings…).
Installing to my rack was as simple as removing a single bolt to attach the light.
After my purchase I received a personal thank you email from one of the owners, John, thanking me for supporting their small business. A very nice touch.
When I received my light there was a very small manufacturing issue that did not cause a problem with any function but I reached out to John about it anyway. He was very concerned that my light wasn't perfect and offered multiple solutions to address the issue, up to and including replacing the unit. I did take him up on that offer to replace it, and within a week (he's West coast and I'm East and I also told him there was no need to rush it), I had a new perfect light.
I couldn't be more impressed with the light, the customer service and personal email interactions I had with John. Something you don't get much of these days.

I have the NV 2.0 rack with two bike extension. Needed to take four bikes on a 15 hour drive on a mini SUV and wanted to feel more secure lighting-wise back there. I found the Kody Kuat-light via a Google search. I called Kody and John immediately picked up and explained the product features in a very clear way. I needed the light quickly. Kody 2-day-express mailed the unit at a very fair postage price. The light installs as easy as the YouTube video shows. The light and directional indicators work and are more than bright enough for night driving. I felt a great deal of comfort knowing that the expensive bikes on the back of the car now had warning lights. Priceless feeling. Finally all of my interactions with John made me feel that Kody is a high quality and high customer service company. I highly recommend the light and the company.
The Kody Technology lights are an excellent and quality product. I have a Kuat NV Base 2.0 bike rack for transporting 4 bikes and as with all hitch mounted racks the bikes block all rear lights on my truck (tail, signal and brake) creating a dangerous situation not only at night but also during the day. The Kody lights easily install quickly and seamlessly onto my rack and are very bright (even during the day) and provide the much needed safety and communication to vehicles following behind. The Kody lights provide safety for vehicle occupants and protection of my bikes. I would not transport my bikes, especially at night, without the Kody lights on my rack. The ordering process was easy and lights arrived very quickly (to British Columbia, Canada). Thanks for developing this products.
We got it just in time for an epic road trip. Austin > Taos > Durango > Keystone - the bikes have never felt safer with the added visibility on the back. Everyone who has an NV 2.0 needs one of these REALLY easy to install lights to go with it.
It's really obvious to drivers behind me (we experimented with them off) that my signal lights including brake lights are NOT as visible as they need to be with the bikes in front of them. I only have 2 bikes at the moment, and can't imagine the fully loaded 4 bike rack and no extra lights.
I'm basically asking someone to take my rides out.

Excellent product - fit my new Kuat NV 2.0 very well! I have a new Ford bronco so as the website makes aware there is some compatibility issue with certain electronics with the new Fords. The customer service is excellent and he actually made suggestions guiding me towards the rack light that would best fit my vehicle. The set up was easy. A lot cheaper then buying a bike rack that has lights built in (for example some bike racks that come with pre installed lights are incandescent lights and not the LED lights that we should prefer for durability standpoint ) This is a good product made in California- That’s starting to make waves and get noted here in Michigan.
